A family ski base at 2,340 m above Aldermere: 48 km of runs, six lifts, a rental counter that fits you in ten minutes, and night skiing on Fridays.
Every pass covers all six lifts and the beginner carpet. Prices are per person, tax included; the card itself is a one-time $4 deposit you get back at the window.
Cabins leave the village every 12 seconds and reach the mid station in seven minutes. Below is the ride as it looks from the seat: the cabin hangs still, the mountain moves past it.
Every run is groomed overnight except the Hollow Bowl, which is left alone on purpose. Status below is how the mountain stood at this morning's briefing.

A 420 m slalom is set on the Night Line every Thursday at 18:30. Entry is $8, the clock is public, and the fastest three in each age group ski free the following week.
Two hundred sets of skis and ninety boards, all under three seasons old. Bring the pass and an ID; the deposit is held on the card and released when you return the set.

Half dayHOLLOW PEAK started in 1998 as one tow rope and a wooden hut at the bottom of the Meadow Loop. The Tarvey family still runs the base, and three of the instructors learned to ski on that same rope as children.
We keep the school small on purpose: eight people in a group is the most one instructor can actually watch on a moving slope. If a group fills up we open another one rather than squeeze in a ninth.
We came with two children who had never skied. By Wednesday both were riding the Meadow Chair on their own. The kids club did that, not us.
The corduroy on the Ridge Cable Run at nine in the morning is the reason I keep buying the season pass. It is groomed properly, every single night.
Rental took eight minutes including boots. The queue at the base station at half past nine is real, though — go to the Larch Chair instead.
The Cable Road is cleared by 06:00 every morning. Winter tyres are required from the second hairpin up; there is a free chain station at the turn-off.

Yes, and most people manage the Meadow Loop on the first afternoon. Take the 10:00 group lesson, rent a child or adult set at the counter from 08:00, and keep the first day to the carpet and the Meadow Chair. The carpet is included in every pass, so a lesson plus a child day pass at $31 is the cheapest way to try.
The summit cable is the first to close, usually above 70 km/h of gusts. The Larch Chair and the Meadow Chair keep running in the trees, where it is calmer. If the main cable stops for more than an hour, your day pass rolls over to another day, and a week pass simply extends. We do this at the window, no form needed.
From the second hairpin on Cable Road, yes, and it is checked. There is a free chain station at the turn-off with a covered bay. If you would rather not drive, the shuttle from the Aldermere bus square runs every 20 minutes from 07:40 and is free with any valid pass.
A rental set can be held until 11:00 on the day if you book the evening before. Group lessons close at 18:00 the day before, because we split the groups by level that night. A private lesson can often be arranged the same morning — call the ticket house at +1 555 0148 and ask who is free.
